Log Homes Council Features Navajo Floor Plan by Honest Abe Log Homes

Log Homes Council Features Navajo Floor Plan by Honest Abe Log Homes

Modified Navajo Timber Frame Home by Honest Abe Log Homes

Moss, TN (Vocus) August 5, 2010

During the month of August, 2010, the Log Homes Council, whose parent organization is the National Association of Home Builders, is featuring a beautiful timber frame house by Honest Abe Log Homes. Honest Abe, a member and supporter of the council, is best known for designing, manufacturing and building log homes and cabins. However, this timber frame home demonstrates the diversity within the company’s line of products, and the variety available within the wood home industry overall.

This particular floor plan is no stranger to Honest Abe’s portfolio of log home and timber frame designs. The Navajo has been within the company’s line up for over fifteen years, yet still captures attention by so many log home enthusiasts. “The plan is modest, yet has so much to offer,” comments Fred Kendall, Design Manager at Honest Abe. “One wing of the timber frame home features the master bedroom and bath, while the other is split into two bedrooms and a shared bathroom. The center has an open design within the great room, which is overlooked by a loft. The kitchen is spacious and open to its surroundings.” All of this is available in an area just over 1,800 square feet without a basement.

As with most plans Honest Abe Log Homes offers, the Navajo featured in the Log Council’s article has undergone modifications as directed by the customers. Rick and Betty Blair of Apple Orchard Mountain Homes decided to construct a ‘spec’ timber frame home in The Preserve at Beach Mountain located in Hayesville, North Carolina. “The property has such a beautiful view of the mountains,” noted Betty. “So, Rick and I added more deck and porch area than called for on the original design. We also added a gazebo, which creates an outstanding outdoor living area to take in the views.” Due to the slope of the property, they added an angled corner entry as well as a walk-out basement. “A finished basement is a great way to add on affordable living area,” suggested Rick.

The Navajo is a great example of the flexibility in creative design available when constructing with timber frame or log. Imagination and budget really are the limits. Honest Abe’s timber frame construction takes customization to another level. Since the walls are constructed with posts, beams and prefabricated panels, the exterior of the home can be covered with a variety of products. Of course, Honest Abe manufactures log siding that can be applied to give the appearance of log, but some customers choose to use cedar siding, brick, stone and even vinyl siding. Rick and Betty Blair chose to use log siding for the exterior walls on the main level, while covering the gable-end walls and dormers with cedar shake siding. The walk-out basement features a manufactured stone application. All of this combined really expresses a mountain home feel with definitive craftsman style accents.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) $230B (MarketCap) Introduces iPhone 4

Published by admin on September 9, 2011

by Global X

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) has continually been able to capture substantial market share in every market it enters. There have been over 2 million iPads sold, “selling one every three seconds”, and they are now selling it in 10 countries. Within 65 days of release, iBooks’ share of total eBook sales is at about 20% and rising, with 5 million iBooks downloaded to date. Apple’s quick and efficient operations can be noted by the company’s App Store, which sells downloadable programs that run on the machine, now featuring 225,000 apps.
CEO Steve Jobs stated that 15,000 apps are submitted each week and that 95% of them are approved in seven days, responding to criticism that the app approval process can be cumbersome. Developers have made more than billion selling Apple apps. eBay CEO John Donahoe stated at D8 last week that the company’s iPhone application was responsible for 0 million in volume last year. Another stat to note is that the iPhone has 58.2% mobile browsing share, with over 3 times the market share of Android in Q1 2010.

Today, Steve Jobs introduces the Apple iPhone 4 at the Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco, a forum he typically uses to showcase new products. Apple has updated the iPhone each summer since the device’s debut in June 2007.
This newest version will be released for sale on June 24th, and includes a significant amount of improvements to the already innovative iPhone. Some features to note include the new design, camera features, multitasking, folders, enhanced e-mail, iBooks, and iAd (mobile advertising platform).

The precision of the new design is unheard of, just 9.3 mm thick, 24% thinner than the 3Gs, making it the thinnest smartphone on the planet. It also maintains stainless steel for strength, optical quality glass on each side for scratch resistance, and built-in antennas. Jobs notes that they’ve been able to build in a larger, improved battery, including 7 hours of 3G talk,10 hours of video, 40 hours of music, and 300 hours of standbye. The updated camera is now at 5 megapixels, with LED flash, a backside illuminated sensor, and HD video recording capabilities. The feature that I am most excited about is the FaceTime video calling, which operates iPhone4 to iPhone4 and is WiFi only. With this feature, you can use front or rear camera and you can switch between the two to show the person you’re talking to what you’re seeing.

Jobs described this release as “the biggest leap since the original iPhone.” Apple continues to set and push the bar higher when it comes to unique, innovative products, and this iPhone release is a perfect example. When it comes down to it, it seems as if every phone is compared to the iPhone, showing its complete dominance in its market share.

Apple Continues Its Exclusive Ways (NASDAQ: GOOG, AAPL)

Published by admin on September 8, 2011

Today, Google was enraged at the release of the new iPhone and iPad operating systems rules. The new terms exclude any company whose primary business is not service mobile ads, which targets Google and its newly acquired AdMob platform. Competing networks such as AdMob will be unable to collect data from iPhone users. Developers will not be able to use third-party analytics software in their applications to collect and send device data to third parties for any usage as well. Finally, developers must ask Apple’s permission to collect specific info about their users and may only disclose user data to independent advertising service providers.

To summarize, developers can only use iAd to collect information from iPhone and iPad users and may only use this gathered information with companies that are too small to compete with Apple, thus rendering all of the big players attempting to gain market share in the space inoperable.

Apple products and networks are becoming a more closed system with every new release. Do I agree with the idea itself, no, but I have to give it to the company for being very wise. Whether these new terms will be reviewed legally is still unknown, but you can bet that Google will find some way to retaliate in some form against Apple. You can also bet that many of the advertisers and ad platforms will now flock away from the iPhone and iPad.

Heavy advertisement revenue could give Google the advantage in promoting the open source-android operating system.

In the old technology world, the two heavy weights were always Microsoft and Apple. The day is rapidly approaching where Google will be Apple’s main competitor. Open-Source versus Closed-Source programming. The war of mobile operating systems has begun, and it may be only a matter of time before Google’s PC operating system is announced as well. Who knows what the search giant has up its sleeve.

Google is currently trading at 4.62 while Apple is trading at 4.90

Google’s Android Phones Challenge Apple iPhone For Market Share

Published by admin on September 5, 2011
Apple iAd
by Premshree Pillai

At a media forum on July 8, 2010 in Idaho, Google executives Larry Page and Sergey Brin informed Journalists that Steve Jobs was re-writing Android’s history to align with Apple’s interests. They argued that contrary to Steve Jobs claims Google had been working on Android long before the iPhone was launched in 2007.

Now the question most industry watchers are asking is if Google had been working on an Android powered phone why they did wait until September 2008 a year after the iPhone was launched to introduce the G1 phone?

The facts suggest that Google ventured into the phone business following the realization that the future of computing would be in portable mobile devices. As a result, they went into the phone business with the goal of dominating web search on mobile devices just like they had done on the desktop. This notion is supported by Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google whose published comments in the UK Guardian newspaper on June 25th 2010 suggests he wants Android to be the Windows of Mobile.

In contrast, Apple appears to have invested in the phone business as a re-positioning strategy and with a goal to make huge revenue from the sale of the smartphone hardware itself. Also with the advent of the smart phones, Apple realized that there was a huge potential in the area of mobile Advertising. This was why they sought to acquire Admob which Google later acquired. As a result Apple acquired Quatro wireless which is Admob’s biggest competitor. Afterwards Google’s Admob was shut out from iAd -Apples mobile Advertising platform.

]]>

As the smart phone war rages on Bloomberg News reports that Apple has sold more than 50 million iPhones since its introduction. According to Apple CEO, Steve Jobs the latest version, iPhone 4 has sold more than 3 million units since its June 24, 2010 debut. Analysts believe iPhones account for nearly 35 percent of Apples .9 billion revenue. Also, the iPhone has over 200,000 applications with over 5 billion downloads till date.

Just like Apple, Google is achieving success with Android powered smartphones like HTC EVO, Droid X, and Droid Incredible as sales have continued to rise dramatically. A confirmation of Android’s growth could be seen from the positive comments made by Google’s Senior VP of Product Management, Jonathan Rosenberg in July 2010.According to Mr. Rosenberg there are 160,000 Android-based devices being activated daily. He stated that Android search grew by 300 percent in the first half of 2010, with strong growth expected to continue.

Mr. Rosenberg added that overall revenue jumped by 24 percent year-on-year and profit increased by 19 percent, as well. Today, they are over 70,000 Apps and by the end of the year they should reach 100,000.A pointer to the rapid growth of Google’s Android could be discerned from Comscore, which reported on July 8 2010 that Google’s Android platform grew by 44 percent from February to May.

Remarkably inspite of the increase in Android’s market share Comscore’s report showed that as at July, 2010 that RIM was number one with 41.7 percent share of U.S. smartphone subscribers, followed by Apple with 24.4 percent share. Microsoft was 3rd with a 13.2 percent share;Google’s Android was 4th with 13 percent and Palm was 5th with 4.8 percent market share. Market analysts say a review of the totality of the Market indicates that Android is growing at a rate that will see it outpace all its competitors.

Apple Reveals

Published by admin on September 5, 2011
Apple iAd
by Wesley Fryer

Apple CEO Steve Jobs previewed the next operating system for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad today in Cupertino, CA.

The company’s new mobile advertising platform, called iAds, is built into the operating system–application developers will be able to use it to sell ads and will get 60 percent of the revenue.

Mobile advertising is seen as a potential goldmine because, at least in theory, advertisements can be tailored to a person’s precise location and activity.

The announcement will intensify competition between Apple and Google in the mobile arena. The search giant bought the mobile advertising company, AdMob, from under Apple’s nose last November. Shortly after, Apple acquired another mobile advertising firm Quattro Wireless.
The new OS also includes a feature that users have been clamoring after for a while: the ability to perform more than one application task at once.

]]>

This will make Apple’s devices a lot more capable. For example, an iPhone user will be able to dash out an email while listening to music with the Pandora app, or make a phone call while location-based software continues to collect and send data.

Multitasking has been a major selling point for Google’s competing Android platform. But Apple’s new operating system won’t be as fully functional as Android. Instead, Apple is exposing multitasking capabilities through several specific application programming interfaces, which means they must be used in specific ways.

Jobs explained the long delay in bringing multitasking to Apple devices by saying that, if not engineered well, these capabilities can drain Apple Laptop Battery such as Apple A1175 Battery and Apple A1079 Battery life and introduce performance issues.

The new operating system is expected to come to newer models of the iPhone and iPod Touch this summer, and to the iPad later this fall. Earlier models (including the 2008 iPhone 3G) will not get all the update’s new features.

by Mark Fidelman

The “i”s seem to have it. It seem we can put an “i” in front of almost anything these days, and BMW is taking advantage of the new iAD, launching the first uses-generated on to promote its new BMW X3. The iAD is a new mobile advertising network from Apple, which will go out to iPhone and iPod touch users.

Boston used BMW buyers will appreciate this new way to get news on the latest BMW models. The iAD for the new BMW focuses on BMW’s build-to-order program which lets buyer create a custom version of the BMW X3.

Created by Dotglu, BMW’s Interactive & CRM Agency, the X3 iAD has three segments that help customers go from being introduced to the BMW X3 to designing their own and having it delivered in just a few weeks. Check with your Boston BMW dealership for more details – it’s coming soon!

The “Dream It” section lets buyers see how the X3 will impact lives and how they can have one of their own. With the shake feature on the iPod or iPhone, users can browse dreams, color options and stories about other buyers. They can also submit their own dream to be shared with the community.

]]>

During the “Build It” portion, customers explore more than 70 million possible combinations for making their own unique X3. This includes everything from interior options to colors. Once their X3 is customized, they can save it to their device.

Now comes the fun part – “Drive It”. Users can watch the X3 through a selection of videos or look at highlights of the model by touching the ‘hotspots’ like the transmission or interior. They also can contact a dealer and talk about the model they have already built. Your Boston BMW dealership will be happy to help you make this dream car a reality.

The new BMW X3 model will be in showrooms in January and no doubt lots of iAD users will be waiting to translate their dream cars into reality. Designed by BMW Group DesignWorksUSA in California, the new X3 is being produced in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Boston used BMW buyers may want to check out the iAD as well and try out their own unique design skills. This compact crossover has seen some changes for 2011, but largely remains the same fun, dependable vehicle that has been popular.

Prices will range from ,500-,375 for base models and could reach as high as ,000 with a load of options. The price is competitive, as is the vehicle itself, otherwise if probably wouldn’t have sold so well in previous model years.

Bur more importantly, the new BMW X3 delivers the quality we expect and a fun driving experience. And who can pass up the challenge of designing your own vehicle?
